Oregon Ducks are hosting Saint Mary's transfer guard Mikey Lewis for a visit as they seek to strengthen their roster. Lewis, a top combo guard, had a standout sophomore season, averaging 13.9 points per game and earning first-team All-WCC honors.
The Oregon Ducks have moved quickly in the transfer portal so far, securing three commitments to help Dana Altman fill out a new roster in Eugene on the hardwood next season. Tyrone Riley IV, Andrew Meadow and Pharaoh Compton have already pledged their allegiance to the Ducks, and now Altman is searching for another dangerous scorer.
On Tuesday, Saint Mary's transfer guard Mikey Lewis will visit the Ducks, according to Sam Kayser. Lewis is a major target for Oregon's new-look backcourt, and also a bit of a surprise. Lewis visited Washington on Sunday and is one of the top combo guards available in the portal.
Lewis had a big season for the Gaels as a sophomore, averaging 13.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 36.8% from deep. Standing at 6-foot-3, he has the size and ability to be an efficient shooter around the floor and be the primary ball-handler when needed. Lewis connected on 39.8% of his shots from the field last season and made 88.2% of his attempts from the stripe.
After winning West Coast Conference Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman, Lewis became a starter for the Gaels last season and earned first-team All-WCC honors. He really heated up at the end of the season, dropping a career-high 31 points and drilling seven triples as the Gaels upset Gonzaga at the end of the regular season.
After boosting his numbers in his second season and establishing himself as a prolific scorer, it makes sense why Oregon is interested. The Ducks are also hosting Hofstra transfer Preston Edmead on Tuesday. It would be huge for the Ducks to pull in one or both of the scoring threats to lead the offense heading into next season.
