Oxford United midfielder Cameron Brannagan has said the club want to "bounce back" to the Championship as soon as possible.
The club captain also admitted that frustrations were high for him personally following a disapointing season.
Relegation brings to an end a two-year stay in the Championship for Oxford, who will return to the third tier next season and Brannagan hopes they can find a way to get back to the Championship.
"We want to bounce back, the frustration is massive at this moment in time," he told BBC Radio Oxford.
"It hurts a lot and has done since the day we found out. We have to get ourselves ready this summer because it's going to be a really tough season next season, we want to bounce back and hopefully get back in this league.
"We probably need a bit of time to get away from it all to be honest and recharge but it will be full focus come pre-season."
This season, across all competitions, Brannagan made 41 appearances, scoring six goals and registering three assists.
In September, he was named club captain following the departure of Elliott Moore, having previously been vice-captain.
This summer, Oxford's recruitment team will be tasked with rebuilding the squad for a season in League One, and Brannagan said he expects to be a part of that playing group come next season.
"People come and go, obviously loan players will go back as well to their clubs," he added.
"I'm under contract so it'll be full focus in pre-season and we want to improve and we want to be better so the full focus is on next season.
"From the first day of pre-season we've got to get it right, we played in League One for a long time and it's not an easy league."
Oxford United was relegated due to a disappointing season that did not meet performance expectations.
