Padres and A.J. Preller get bad news on potential Mike Trout trade

While the Los Angeles Angels might not actually wind up trading Trout, Law believes now is the time for the Angels to part with their future Hall of Famer.

And in an ideal world, the Padres would be a possible landing spot. Preller can land the big fish during any trade period. Trout would be a fantastic pickup if they could manage it.

But, with a very weak prospect system following the Miller trade last year, and the new owners being uncertain if they will spend so much on the team, a trade for Trout doesn't look very likely for the Padres.

He would be a great addition to the lineup and could find a spot somewhere, whether it's in center field, one of the corner spots, or even at designated hitter.

The Padres are one of the top teams in the league this year, and adding someone like Trout would surely help their odds to surpass the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But the path for a Trout trade doesn't look likely for the Padres. As much as it's a Preller-esque move, such a deal doesn't look likely at all.
