Sherrone Moore's former assistant, Paige Shiver, is speaking out following the former University of Michigan coach's sentencing.

On Tuesday, April 14, Moore, 40, was sentenced to 18 months of probation and was fined over $1,000. Moore, who pleaded no contest to the two misdemeanors, is also prohibited from using drugs or alcohol, possessing firearms or contacting Shiver.

“Today's sentence does not reflect the seriousness of Moore's unlawful entry and aggressive attack on Ms. Shiver on December 10th,” Shiver's attorneys, Andrew M. Stroth and Steven A. Hart, tell PEOPLE in a statement.

Shiver accused Moore of breaking into her apartment “crying, yelling, enraged” on Dec. 10 after he was terminated from his coaching job. Shiver alleged that Moore “came at me with knives,” adding, “I was threatened, and I feared for my life.”

Shiver's attorneys accused the University of Michigan of giving Moore “limitless power” which “emboldened him to do whatever he wanted for years with no accountability.”

“For several years, the University of Michigan's leadership looked the other way and allowed Ms. Shiver to be exploited and abused by Moore,” her attorneys alleged. “The University enabled Moore and others in positions of authority within the Athletic Department, fostered the ongoing and escalating abuse, and advanced a culture that cared not about the hostile environment but instead was focused only on winning football games.”

Following the sentencing, Moore's attorney, Ellen Michaels, told PEOPLE in a statement, "We have addressed this case in court with dignity and respect for all involved. The resolution reflects the evidence and the law."

"This outcome is not the result of favoritism or public profile—it is the result of a careful legal process, thorough investigation, and advocacy grounded in the facts," Michaels added.

District Court Judge Cedric Simpson noted in his ruling that he didn't feel Moore should be incarcerated, but added, "I warn you, Mr. Moore, should there be a violation, all bets are off. I don't like sending people to jail, but I don't have a problem doing it."

"Frankly, Mr. Moore, you had no right to do what you did," Judge Simpson said of the alleged incident that occurred at Shiver's home. "I know she was placed in fear. It was a traumatic experience for you — it was certainly a traumatic experience for her — but you had no right to spread your pain to her."

On March 6, Moore pleaded no contest to two misdemeanors: malicious use of a telecommunications device and trespass. Three more serious charges, including a felony home invasion that came with a five-year prison sentence if convicted, were dismissed as part of his plea agreement.

"The power imbalance between a powerful head coach and a subordinate employee created an environment where our client felt pressured, intimidated, and unable to escape conduct that should never occur in any workplace—let alone at a public university," Shiver's legal team, Action Injury Law Group, alleged in a March 6 statement obtained by PEOPLE.
