When Carolina Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan says "all positions are on the table" with the 19th overall pick, he means it.
Morgan sat down in front of reporters for his pre-draft press conference on Tuesday morning. When asked about the idea of continuing to build around quarterback Bryce Young, he pointed out that he and his front office are looking for all kinds of playmakers.
"Of course we wanna add as many playmakers as you canâon both sides of the ball, not just at receiver," he stated. "I think when we talk about the type of guys that we wanna bring in here, that we want guys to make playsâwhether it's a [defensive back] taking the ball away or it's a receiver, running back scoring touchdowns."
Although Young put forth a career year in helping the Panthers to their first NFC South title since 2015, the offense didn't take a huge step forward this past season. Carolina averaged just 295.6 yards and 18.3 points per game, ranking 27th in the NFL in both categories.
There has been some chatter around the Panthers using their first-round pick next Thursday night on a wide receiver for Young. If that's the case, it'll be the third straight draft that the organization has done so.
But Morgan, when asked if the two priors years will steer them away from another wideout, doesn't seem to care about what's already been done.
"No, I think, with anything, we're gonna take the best player," he replied. "So if the the best player we feel is at 19, I wouldn't hesitate to draft another wideout.
"I don't think there's a rule that says you can't draft a receiver three years in a row. I'm not gonna box us in and say we're not gonna draft one."
In 2024, Carolina traded up into the first round to take Xavier Legette with the 32nd overall pick. They followed that selection up with Tetairoa McMillan, the eventual AP Offensive Rookie of the Year, at the eighth overall spot in 2025.
