Maeda stunner seals Old Firm win as Celtic keep title hopes alive
Celtic's 3-1 win over Rangers keeps their title hopes alive with Maeda's stunning goal!
The Carolina Panthers' roster has been ranked 25th in the NFL despite offseason improvements. Analysts remain skeptical about the team's competitiveness, citing weaknesses in key positions.
The Carolina Panthers supposedly won the offseason, with one analyst describing it as a "monster" showing, and Pro Football Focus going so far as to name them "offseason champions."
Despite all the evident improvements, some analysts and models remain completely unconvinced that this team is anything but a pushover that won a bad division.
The Athletic has a new projection model out that ranks all 32 rosters around the NFL. The Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills took the top three spots, but the Panthers roster only came in at 25th:
The Panthers might pick up Bryce Young's inexpensive fifth-year option, but I'm almost certain he's not worthy of a long-term contract... Their wide receivers and offensive tackles are in solid shape with young talent. But their edge rushers and defensive line rank 23rd and 19th, respectively — that's not going to get it done. Even though the cornerbacks room (No. 8) is strong, it won't matter much given the state of that pass rush.
While there are some fair points made here, ranking Carolina's roster 25th is entirely too harsh—even if you think outside linebacker Jaelen Phillips will never get another sack again. Nic Scourton flashed a ton of potential as a rookie and should help boost the Panthers' pass rush—and if can follow suit, it will be a far better dynamic.
The Panthers are ranked 25th due to concerns about their edge rushers and defensive line, which are ranked 23rd and 19th, respectively.
The top three ranked teams are the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Buffalo Bills.
The Panthers made significant improvements, particularly in their wide receivers and offensive tackles, but analysts doubt their overall competitiveness.

The Panthers also added an excellent run stuffer in the draft with Texas Tech's Lee Hunter, who should help free up Derrick Brown to be even more disruptive than usual. Carolina's off-ball linebacker room is also improved thanks to the addition of Pro Bowler Devin Lloyd, whose presence should help stabilize the entire defense.
There's still a big hole at safety next to Tre'von Moehrig—but overall, it's a respectable secondary that may be a part of a top-10 unit going into the 2026 season.
It's on the other side of the ball where The Athletic's model has a point. While Bryce Young may be on the rise, the rest of the quarterback room is underwhelming at best. Kenny Pickett is not a top-50 option, Will Grier is not a top-100 QB and we have no idea what to make of the undrafted rookie Haynes King, yet.
The wide receiver room looks to be much better than it was a couple years ago and the offensive line has been solidified after a brutal injury-plagued season for that group. However, Carolina still has one of the worst tight end rooms in the NFL, and if Chuba Hubbard can't bounce back after a bad season, the Panthers may also have one of the league's weakest running back groups.
What would boost this ranking more than anything else would be a surge forward from Young. If he can start playing like the way he did against the Atlanta Falcons and the Los Angeles Rams on a regular basis, it will cover up a whole lot of warts on this roster.
Until that happens, it'll be tough to argue that the defending NFC South champs are a serious playoff contender.
