Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique sounds fully ready for his teamâs Champions League tilt vs. Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
PSG leads Bayern Munich 5-4 on aggregate.
âWeâve done a great job so far. Nowâs the time to give even more to reach a second final. Itâs important to show why weâre here and stay true to who we are as a team. It will be a top-level match between the two best teams in Europe. It will be a thrilling encounter,â Enrique said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). âBoth teams throughout the season, and in our case over the last two seasons, have shown their ability to handle difficult moments. We need to be more competitive than ever. When I see these kinds of matches, I remember Rafael Nadal saying that facing Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer was a motivation for him. He saw the potential to improve. Weâll try to overcome the atmosphere and a team that plays sensational football.â
Of course, PSG won the Champions League last season on the turf of the Allianz Arena, but Enrique insist that will not play a role in how his team thinks or plays.
âWe donât need any extra motivation, weâre already at 100%. It brings back great memories when we go back to Munich; it will always be a real pleasure. We can remember last year, and if I go back even further, when I was the coach, the year of our CL win, we played against Bayern in the semifinal, with the second leg in Munich. We went on to win the final. For me, thatâs even more motivating,â Enrique noted. âAs a team, we have the same objective away from home as we do at home. We donât need to defend the result because the objective is to win. Itâs a challenge, we want to win the game, not just go through.â
The two teams know each and are both going to be ready to go. If the second leg is anything like the first leg, fans might need to brace themselves.
