Eliot Wolf, the Patriots' executive vice president of player personnel, expressed concerns about the depth of the 2026 NFL Draft class, stating it may not be as strong historically. Despite this, the Patriots hold 11 picks, including the No. 31 overall, and aim to find valuable players.
New England Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf is not feeling bullish about the 2026 NFL Draft class.
Wolf and the Patriots won't get their first crack at the board until the No. 31 pick in the first round. The team is coming off an unexpected Super Bowl appearance with plenty of holes to fill on the roster.
That being said, the team is entering the draft with 11 picks overall. They will have plenty of darts to throw at the board or even position themselves well to trade up and get the players they really want. However, from a historical standpoint, Wolf admits this draft isn't one of the deepest in recent memory.
āI mean, I would say, putting it in a historical perspective, itās probably not great,ā Wolf said, via Boston Herald's Doug Kyed. āBut I also personally believe that, like, if you do your job and do the work, like, thereās going to be good players there anytime you pick. And you have to pick the right ones, the guys that are going to fit. So, maybe itās not as deep at the top as some other drafts, but thereās going to be some good players available in every round.ā
The Patriots could use depth at multiple positions.
Offensive line, wide receiver, edge rusher, tight end and interior defensive line have been particular areas of need for the Patriots. Their ability to find and develop premium talent on both sides of the ball could make all the difference in their bid to get back to the playoffs and potentially make another Super Bowl run.
