New England has Drake Maye as its starting quarterback, and although the team re-signed Tommy DeVito as the backup, the Patriots could draft another quarterback. Ahead of the draft, Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Behren Morton spoke to Justin Melo of SI and revealed he met with the Patriots.
āItās been a fun, busy process,ā Morton said in an interview published on Sunday. āItās a good problem to have. ⦠I also recently got back from a bunch of Top 30 visits. I visited the Green Bay Packers, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and the Jets as well. Itās been a fun process. I saw some incredible facilities and met some incredible coaches.ā
Morton revealed heās also met with the Las Vegas Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Indianapolis Colts, and Dallas CowboysĀ in the lead-up to the draft.
Morton spent five years at Texas Tech and was a starter for three seasons. The 24-year-old likely projects to be a backup quarterback in the NFL, and could be a cost-controllable backup behind Drake Maye. Heās projected to be selected in Round 7, according to NFL.com's Lance Zierlein.
At Texas Tech last season, Morton threw for 2,780 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. His best season was in 2024 when he threw for 3,335 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
The 2026 NFL Draft is set for April 23-25 in Pittsburgh.
