The 2026 NFL Draft concluded on Saturday, with the New England Patriots adding nine new players to their roster.
With these fresh additions, some current players may find themselves in jeopardy of losing their spots. The Patriots have already made a move post-draft, and according to Patriots reporter Doug Kyed from the Boston Herald, they are releasing tight end Marshall Lang, as reported on Monday.
Lang went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft after coming out of Northwestern, but the Seahawks signed him as an undrafted free agent. Seattle released him in August, and then New England picked him up for their practice squad in October. The Patriots let him go again, only for him to return to Seattle in November, before heading back to New England in December. Eventually, he signed a future deal in February.
The Patriots selected Notre Dame tight end Eli Raridon in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, and his addition to the roster may well be the primary reason why New England decided to let go of Lang.
It will be interesting to see if the Patriots try to bring Lang back before training camp, especially since they already have a connection with him, signing him twice during two different stints. This could indicate that his time in New England may not be over just yet.
