The New England Patriots are projected to select Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the No. 31 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. This decision comes as the team seeks to strengthen its wide receiver lineup after recent roster changes.
The New England Patriotsâ situation at wide receiver this offseason calls for the front office to select a standout prospect at the position in the 2026 NFL Draft.
But like Patriots executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf mentioned at his pre-draft press conference on Monday, itâs hard for New England to fully determine who theyâll take with the pick before seeing how the 30 selections prior to theirs go on draft day.
According to NFL.comâs Gennaro Filice in a mock draft, the Patriots capitalize on the opportunity to select Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. with the No. 31 overall pick in the draft, and take the green light.
âThe Romeo Doubs pickup was solid, but Drake Mayeâs receiving corps still isnât up to snuff following the release of Stefon Diggs,â Filice said. âCooperâs a well-rounded player with a mature game that could immediately fill the slot role in New England.â
Indiana won the National Championship in large part behind Cooper's versatile play last season. The 22-year-old went for 937 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns in 2025.
Cooper rivaled Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate in 2025. Tate is widely regarded as the top prospect at the wide receiver position in this yearâs draft class. Cooper is a player whose pre-draft projections are more volatile than most other top prospects.
Nevertheless, if heâs available when the Patriots go up to select at No. 31 overall on draft day, Cooper is surely one of the most dynamic playmakers at the position for New England to mull with the pick.
Who is Omar Cooper Jr. and why is he a top pick for the Patriots in the 2026 NFL Draft?
Omar Cooper Jr. is an Indiana wide receiver recognized for his well-rounded skills and maturity, making him a suitable candidate to fill the slot role for the Patriots.
What challenges do the Patriots face in determining their draft pick before the 2026 NFL Draft?
The Patriots must assess how the 30 selections before theirs impact their strategy, making it difficult to finalize their choice ahead of the draft.
What recent changes in the Patriots' roster have influenced their need for a new wide receiver?
The release of Stefon Diggs has created a gap in the receiving corps, prompting the Patriots to seek a standout prospect like Omar Cooper Jr. to enhance their lineup.
