āPeople probably find it very hard to believeā ā Arne Slot on Liverpoolās approach to PSG second-leg clash
Arne Slot insists his Liverpool sideās approach to their Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash with PSG will not be all that different to the first leg.
Liverpool will have to overturn a two-goal deficit, trailing 2-0 after their defeat in Paris last week. But Slot says he will not change much in terms of his instructions.
āPeople probably find it very hard to believe what Iām going to say now, but the approach is not so different for tomorrow than it was to Paris because for the people who know me, I never put out a team and tell them to go into a low block for 90 minutes,ā the Liverpool boss said.
āActually, if you really look at the game back, we really pressed them high on multiple occasions. Unfortunately, seven or eight of those moments led to them being one on one with our goalkeeper.
āAgain, the approach tomorrow will be to take the risk, because thatās first of all what we need, but to get the ball off them, you need to press them and we saw how difficult it is to press these players.
āBut that was the same last season and Anfield made a big difference for us and Iām expecting it to make a big difference for us tomorrow as well.ā
Slot also says it is important for his players to remember what they have been capable of at times this season.
āFirst of all remind them what the score was ā that it was 2-0,ā he said. āIt felt completely different, as we all know, but the end result was 2-0. Second of all we have shown so many times in big games this season that we are able to get a great performance.
āWe have also shown a completely different face, I am completely aware of that, but many of our games that we have played were very good as well. Especially in big games.
āIn the 49 home games we have played [under me] 36 times we were able to score two goals or more. Yes, we have not played all these 49 games against Paris St-Germain, I realise that, but the Premier League and Champions League opponents we had were very strong.
āSo yes there is a belief we can do special things tomorrow but we need to be very, very, very special tomorrow to achieve that. We are playing the champions of Europe so that makes the task more difficult but not impossible.ā
