Peru defeated Ticonderoga 5-3 after a late rally, scoring four runs in the seventh inning. Kayden Smith led with three hits, while Keagan Theriault provided strong relief pitching.
TICONDEROGA — Ticonderoga had Peru on the ropes Saturday, but the Nighthawks escaped.
Peru rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning and defeated the Sentinels, 5-3, in CVAC play.
Kayden Smith accounted for three of the Nighthawks’ six hits while Keagan Theriault picked up the pitching in relief for starter Kalib Smith.
The Sentinels broke loose for three runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead, but Peru responded with four runs late.
“Lead-off singles by Drew Engstrom and Kalib Smith came around to score the runs needed to tie the game,” Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said.
“We were unable to get the outs when we needed in the seventh to secure the win.”
Jackson Dorsett pitched into the seventh inning for the Sentinels.
“Jackson pitched great the entire game, keeping a great Peru line-up off balance,” Dan Dorsett said. “We also stranded eight runners throughout the game and could not expand our lead in the bottom of the sixth with runners on second and third.
“Peru capitalized when they needed to come up big in the end. Kalib Smith pitched well in taking a no decision.”
Kalib Smith struck out eight and walked four while Dorsett whiffed seven and had three walks.
