Pharaoh Compton, a 6-foot-7 forward, has committed to the Oregon Ducks after two seasons at San Diego State. He was the Aztecs' first Top 100 recruit since 2005, averaging 7.5 points and 2.8 rebounds in his sophomore year.
As Dana Altman enters the offseason for his men's basketball program, he finds just two scholarship players remaining from his 2025-26 squad in Efe Vitan and Rian Gonzales and they didn't even play. It's a rebuild unlike any rebuild for the Ducks as Altman attempts to repopulate a decimated roster.
But he did get off to a good start as 6-foot-7 forward Pharoah Compton committed to play for the Ducks next season. In his two seasons at San Diego State, Compton, originally from Chicago, was the Aztecs first Top 100 recruit since 2005, and he was the top-rated recruit out of Nevada.
In his freshman season, Compton averaged 5.4 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Those numbers went up in his sophomore season as he averaged 7.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in just an average of 14 minutes of playing time per game. San Diego State finished 22-11 on the season and missed out on the postseason.
Depending on how the rest of the roster shapes up, Compton will probably be expected to produce more than that for the Ducks. He did shoot 75 percent from inside the three-point line, but just 62 percent from the free-throw line.
Compton is just one transfer of a whole host of others that will come to Eugene to play for Oregon, but having someone willing to muck it up on the inside and pull down big rebounds is important to any team. The Ducks haven't had that in some time. Oregon also landed former Boise State forward Andrew Meadow, but he's more of a scorer than Compton is right now.
