The Philadelphia Phillies scored 13 runs against the Chicago Cubs in their series opener, with Alec Bohm breaking out of a hitting slump. Bohm's performance is particularly notable as he faces scrutiny this season.

The Philadelphia Phillies enjoyed an offensive outburst on Monday, posting 13 runs against the Chicago Cubs to open their series with a victory.
And the momentum reached one player who is under a significant microscope as beleaguered third baseman Alec Bohm snapped a pronounced drought at the plate.
âAlec Bohm, who snapped an 0-for-17 skid when he singled in the third inning, hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another run,â The Philadelphia Inquirerâs Lochlan March reported.
Amid his offensive struggles, Bohm was moved out of the cleanup spot in the teamâs batting order and perhaps that change can help unlock some improvement going forward. That could be especially important for Bohm as he is now in his final year of arbitration eligibility with the prospect of free agency ahead.
Philadelphia Philliesâ Alec Bohm Adds New Allegation To $3 Million Lawsuit Against Parents
But as Bohm navigates some offensive questions and the chance at a new contract, his off-field battle has taken a significant turn.
âAlec Bohmâs lawyers requested a preliminary injunction last week, seeking the return of $528,618 that his parents purportedly withdrew from a brokerage account attached to Bohm in March, as part of an ongoing legal action alleging Bohmâs parents mismanaged his finances,â Charlotte Varnes and Matt Gelb reported for The Athletic on Tuesday. âIt details new allegations of financial impropriety against the parents of the Philadelphia Phillies third baseman, whose initial lawsuit against them seeks $3 million in judgment.â
News of Bohmâs lawsuit against his parents, Daniel and Lisa Bohm, surfaced last month. Lawyers for the Philliesâ infielder claimed that his parents transferred millions of dollars to brokerage accounts tied to limited liability companies (LLCs) created to hold his baseball earnings, then leveraged portions of that money for their own use while misrepresenting their stakes in the LLCs.
Philadelphia Philliesâ Alec Bohmâs Lawsuit Labeled âCarelessâ By Parentsâ Lawyer
Initially, Bohmâs parents responded by asserting their love for their son and innocence in a statement shared by their lawyer. But following the new injunction request, their legal team has offered a more specific and combative response.
âThe careless accusations asserted against our clients are untrue,â Siobhan Cole of Holland & Knight, which is representing Daniel and Lisa Bohm in Pennsylvania, said in an email to The Athletic, per Varnes and Gelb. âDaniel and Lisa Bohm have done nothing but care for their son and protect his personal wealth and safety. They are prepared to demonstrate that, in detail, with financial records showing that Alecâs assets are intact and have always been readily available to him.â
Following that statement, itâs clear that Bohmâs parents expect to battle the accusations in court.
