The Philadelphia Phillies have not gotten off to a great start for 2026, but it is not all lost. In a recent grade piece from Bleacher Report for all of Major League Baseball, they were awarded a "D-".
The New York Mets, who have been on a monumental downslide, were given an "F". For the Phils, there is still hope here.
As far as what has worked as what hasn't, the core of this lineup has yet to really make much of an impact. Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber have showed off their power thus far, with four and six home runs, respectively. But, both of them have been struggling overall. Harper is currently batting at .270, and Schwarber is flaunting a .211 batting average.
One of their more hopeful pieces in this lineup, Alec Bohm, has really been on a cold streak in 2026. In 69 at-bats, he is batting an abysmal .145. Certainly not the expectation they were hoping for the third-baseman.
For the rotation, it has been the Christopher Sànchez show. Despite only having a 2-2 record, he is amongst the league leaders in Earned Run Average, at 1.59. But, that has just about been it as Jesús Lazardo has an ERA of 7.94 and Taijuan Walker's ERA is a 9.16. If this team wants to be consider a serious contender in the National League, the rotation has to be fixed sooner, rather than later.
With a "D-" grading, it makes complete sense. This team is not at the tipping point of failure, but they are flirting with it.
