The Philadelphia Phillies aren't off to the hot start they were hoping for this season, but it's largely been due to the offensive struggles.
For the most part, the pitching staff has been great. And it might be getting a whole lot better in the near future when Zack Wheeler returns. But, how is his injury recovery going at this point?
According to Jon Morosi for MLB Network, the Phillies got some "very good news" on Wheeler ahead of his rehab start today against the New York Yankees minor league team.
Phillies get good news on Zack Wheeler
"Very good news for the Phillies, especially as it relates to Zack Wheeler. He's due to make another minor league rehab outing today, and if things go well in this one, perhaps one more, and then he'll make his long-awaited return to the mound."
Wheeler has been out for a long time, since the middle of August 2025. The 35-year-old is recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome and is on the precipice of a return to the Major Leagues.
But, he still has one more rehab outing to go, and potentially a second depending on how today's matchup goes for the superstar righty.
As Morosi noted, if all goes well, Wheeler's return is very near, which would be a huge boon for the Phillies rotation.

Cristopher Sanchez is as good as ever, while Aaron Nola and Jesus Luzardo have been fine as well. Andrew Painter has had a bit of a shaky start to the year, but overall, he's not been terrible.
Even Taijaun Walker, as long as it's not the first inning, has been a fairly decent pitcher as well. Add in a great bullpen, and the looming return of Wheeler, and the already great Phillies pitching staff could get a whole lot better.
After posting a 2.71 ERA in 24 starts last season, Wheeler is going to miss the first few starts of the season in 2026. But, he's closing in on a return, as this report from Morosi was some "very good news" for the Phillies regarding Wheeler'z returns.
