The Philadelphia Phillies have made a lot of pitcher moves in the past few days, with Jonathan Bowlan landing on the injured list, Seth Johnson being called up, and being sent back down to the minor leagues in the span of roughly 24 hours.
But, there's another move that the Phillies made this week that's a very interesting one, and it's a trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
As the Phillies announced, they traded Griff McGarry, a former top pitching prospect of the Phillies, in exchange for a three-part return, which includes money and potentially even a player.
Phillies trade Griff McGarry to Dodgers for interesting return
"The Phillies have received international bonus pool space and a player to be named later or cash considerations from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for Griff McGarry," the Phillies announced.
This is a fascinating return for the Phillies, as they're landing some extra value for a player they didn't expect to have in the organization this season.
McGarry was picked by the Washington Nationals during the Rule 5 Draft this past offseason, and he didn't end up making the Major League roster and was returned to the Phillies.
Now, McGarry is being shipped off to the Dodgers for some international bonus pool money. That's not all the Phillies got back from Los Angeles for McGarry. They will also either get cash considerations or a player to be named later.

But, for now, the actual final return of this trade isn't known. In the future, the Dodgers will either send a minor league player to the Phillies or some cash considerations.
Through five outings in the minors this season for the Phillies organization at Triple-A, McGarry posted a 9.00 ERA. His struggles had been apparent in 2023 with a 6.00 ERA and in 2024 with a 4.55 ERA.
He was impressive with a 3.44 ERA in 21 starts in 2025, but he couldn't carry that momentum into the season with the Phillies this year.
McGarry brought back some value for the Phillies, albeit not a lot. But, considering they lost him for nothing this offseason, this isn't a terrible return for the former top pitching prospect.
