The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered a 9-0 shutout loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road on Tuesday.
Pittsburgh faced left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, who went seven innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. The Pirates' offense didn’t have much for the left-hander, and it left the team frustrated, according to third baseman Jared Triolo.
“It is frustrating, because he’s throwing three or four different pitches, competitive pitches. He could throw them in any count,” Triolo said postgame.
The Pirates were shut out for the third time this season and acting manager Kris Negron, with Don Kelly serving his one-game suspension, tipped his hat to Rodriguez and how effective he was able to pitch.

“Rodriguez filled up the zone,” said Negron. He was pounding in, first-pitch strikes, working ahead and stayed out of the middle. … We’re trying not to chase, but when he’s living on the edges and working ahead, it makes our job a little bit tougher.”
With the 9-0 shutout loss, the Pirates fell to 19-17 on the season and dropped the first game of the series against Arizona.
Pittsburgh will look to even up the series on Wednesday with Paul Skenes on the mound, with first pitch set for 9:40 p.m. ET.
