The Detroit Pistons won Game 2 against the Orlando Magic, tying the series 1-1. Game 3 is set for April 25 at 1 p.m. on Peacock, where the Pistons aim to regain homecourt advantage.
ORLANDO – The Detroit Pistons got the response they needed in Game 2, dominating the third quarter to secure a 98-83 win. Now, they have an opportunity to regain control of the series on the road.
The Pistons will face the Orlando Magic in Game 3 on Saturday, April 25 (1 p.m., Peacock). With the series tied 1-1, a Pistons win would give them homecourt advantage again after a surprise upset in Game 1. The Pistons look to build momentum coming off of a strong second half on Wednesday, which they opened with a 30-3 run.
"I thought we came out with the type of energy and the type of effort that we needed on the defensive end and I thought offensively we were able to find the gaps in the defense we needed to make the right plays," forward Tobias Harris said. "I thought we got more ball movement, more body movement, and that let us go on that run. As you know, when we're able to get stops and get out in transition that’s when we’re at our best, and I thought we did a great job of that in the third."
Here are two questions the Pistons will have to answer in Game 3, plus a prediction.
ONE BIG PLAN: Detroit Pistons know they need return of identity for Game 3 vs Magic
It has been a slow start to the series for the first-time All-Star, who has averaged just 9.5 points, eight rebounds and seven seven shot attempts over the two games. He has been far less involved and less assertive compared to his breakout regular season, in which he averaged 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 11.5 shot attempts per game.
Orlando has committed fully to swarming the paint and denying Duren passes and shot opportunities. But even in a couple one-on-one matchups with Magic center on Wednesday, Duren was unable to get to his preferred spot and shoot a clean attempt.
Game 3 is scheduled for April 25 at 1 p.m. ET.

A win in Game 3 would give the Pistons homecourt advantage in the series.

Coach J.B. Bickerstaff said several times after the team's practice in Orlando on Friday that they need to get Duren the ball more.
"They’re doing similar things," he said of the Magic in the first two games. "They’re trying to crowd him and put a bunch of bodies on him to take him away. I think it was something that we’ve worked on ways to create opportunities, create space for him so that he can play the game, get his touches, most importantly. If he gets his touches, we like what he’s capable of. We just need to make sure he gets those touches."
Even by their usual high standard, Wednesday's neutering of Orlando's offense was noteworthy. The Pistons held the Magic to 1-for-9 shooting during a 30-3 run in the third quarter. For the night, the Magic shot just 32.5%, with a many turnovers (17) as assists.
It was the biggest improvement compared to Game 1, in which the Magic shot 48.9% and didn't feel the Pistons physically on that end. Orlando may get hot offensively, but the Pistons can't get outworked. Playing Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart more minutes compared to Sunday aided the Pistons' success on that end.
"Our defense, we believe in it," Bickerstaff said. "We understand that nothing for us works if we’re not defending at the level that we need to defend at. We’re excited about the opportunity to bring our defense here and see what it can do."
The Pistons thrive in road environments. They won an East-best 28 games away from home during the regular season. Even dating back to last year's first-round series, both of the Pistons' wins against the New York Knicks came at Madison Square Garden. After a decisive Game 2 win at Little Caesars Arena (to snap an NBA-record 11-game home playoff skid), they should continue riding that momentum into Kia Center. The pick: Pistons 110, Magic 104.
