With just two quarterbacks on their roster, the Pittsburgh Steelers are likely to add another at some point in the 2026 NFL Draft. While there’s a strong possibility that Aaron Rodgers will return for a second season as the Steelers’ starting QB, he’s also 42 years old, having played half of his life in the NFL (21 seasons). It’s possible that Rodgers ultimately decides to retire, even if that’s not what many expect.
Either way, all the Steelers have right now is Mason Rudolph and Will Howard, a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Another will surely be added; the question is, who?
Recently, The Athletic‘s Steelers insider Mike DeFabo reported that Pittsburgh “likely favors” Miami (FL) QB Carson Beck.
“Of the quarterbacks listed, Beck would be the one who best checks each box,” DeFabo wrote. “After throwing for more than 3,000 yards in each of the last three seasons, he’s the high-floor QB; Allar is the high-ceiling passer if someone can help him translate his traits into on-field production. For that reason, the Steelers likely favor the long-armed, big-handed Miami QB somewhere in the middle rounds.”
The Steelers have the 21st overall pick in the first round of the draft, but they won’t be using that selection on Beck, who’s not projected to be drafted until Day 2 at the earliest. Yet, since the Steelers enter the draft with an NFL-high 12 selections, they’ll have plenty of opportunities to get their QB.
