Mylie Lempea from Knappa High School and Wyatt Moura from Idaho have been awarded $2,500 scholarships from the NIAAA Section 8. The scholarships were announced during the annual Section 8 spring meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Two students, Mylie Lempea from Knappa High School and Wyatt Moura from Cambridge, Idaho, have been awarded scholarships from the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association, specifically, NIAAA Section 8 Student Scholarships.The association’s Section 8 includes Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, Montana and Wyoming. The students were chosen in early May at the annual Section 8 spring meeting, held in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, according to a press release about the award. Lempea and Moura will each receive a plaque and a $2,500 scholarship to assist with the cost of higher education.Lempea will graduate on June 6 from Knappa High School. Her athletic administrator is Jenny Smith, RAA, and Lempea’s parents are Bryan and Tonya Lempea.
As a multi-sport athlete at Knappa, Lempea participated on an array of teams. As a cross-country runner, she earned three varsity letters, was a Northwest League Champion, made the Northwest League First Team three times and participated at State. On the softball team, Lempea lettered four times, captained the team, and made the Northwest League First Team.
Lempea excelled on the girls basketball team as well, gaining four varsity letters. She captained the team three times, made the Northwest League First Team four times, was named League Player of the Year three times, Defensive Player of the Year once, and made First Team for All-State twice. On the soccer team, Lempea lettered once and was named a First Team All-League forward.
As a leader in her school, Lempea was involved in several areas. She was a member of the Student Council, acting as President her junior and senior year. Lempea also served as a Knappa School Board student representative. On an international scale, Lempea was a Global TikTok Youth Council U.S. representative, advising on safety, inclusion and well-being for TikTok.
Lempea was a servant-leader in her community, volunteering at the Knappa High School Foundation Dinner, coaching with Knappa Youth Hoops and giving her time at a local senior center.
Moura will graduate on May 23 from Cambridge Middle/High School, located in Cambridge, Idaho. The athletic administrator there is Brendon Wolfe and Moura’s parents are Mark and Cody Moura.
A two-sport athlete at Cambridge, Moura competed in football and wrestling all four years. He varsity lettered every year for both sports and qualified for State every year in wrestling. In his sophomore and junior seasons, he finished sixth at the State wrestling competition and placed second at the Districts 1A competition as a junior.
In football, Moura made the All-Conference First Team at center all four years. He also made All-Conference First Team at defensive end and linebacker his sophomore and junior years, respectively. His junior year the team made Semi-State and his senior year they were the runner up at State.
Moura was involved in several areas as a student-leader at Cambridge. He served as his class president his sophomore and senior years, while acting as treasurer his junior year. Moura also participated in the National Honor Society and officiated youth sports, including football, wrestling, baseball and softball.
The recipients are Mylie Lempea from Knappa High School and Wyatt Moura from Cambridge, Idaho.
Each student has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship.

Scholastic honors for Moura include receiving the CHS Excellence Award as a freshman, the Top Geometry Award, Titan Leaders Award and Top Biology Award as a sophomore. In his junior year, Moura received the Top U.S. Historian Award.
As an engaged member in his community, Moura volunteered on the Cambridge Rodeo Board and was a volunteer firefighter and helper on the ambulance. He was also a member of the Washington County Fair Board, helped with town cleanup and assisted with the Christmas Light Parade.
Section student-athlete scholarships are provided each year by the NIAAA to one male and one female student athlete from each section for their distinguished scholastic, leadership, and sportsmanship qualities.
For a student to apply for and receive the scholarship, they must meet certain requirements which include a certain level of athletic and academic achievements, amongst other criteria.
