Rempe became âaddictedâ to golf after graduation.
He celebrated the summer solstice in 20024 by playing 126 holes â seven complete 18-hole rounds â in one day at Monroe Golf & Country Club.

Now, he is sharing his passion with young players.
Rempe has taken over the boys golf team at SMCC.

âItâs been a good transition for me after doing a lot of youth football, baseball and basketball,â he said. âItâs good to be around the kids. The boys are excited.â
More than 20 boys tried out the team. That was too many to effectively use SMCCâs time on the course, so cuts had to be made.

âThe biggest concern when you do that is whether they still will want to come out the following year,â he said. âBut they are sticking with it. Five or six of them are going out to Old Town (Golf and Sportland) on their own two or three times a week.â
Rempe is one of four new coaches in the Monroe County Region this season.
Longtime basketball coach Jay Haselschwerdt is taking over Dundee, Eric Drummonds is the new boss at Monroe and Matt Walline has taken the reins at Milan.

Top players: Seniors Austin Tackett, Samuel Mitacariu; juniors Landon McGregor, Brayden Siders; sophomore Evan Mullins; freshman Cade Horner.
Season outlook: Hammar expects his top player to change from match to match any one of six with the ability to wind up as medalist.
Coachâs comments: âThis is the most well balanced and cumulative talent Iâve ever had. The team consists of both maturity and youth. I anticipate the team to be very competitive in all our matches and events entered.â

Top players: Seniors Taleon Guess; Connor Urbanski; Quintin Bruce; Brady Younce; juniors Hussein Salami; Bradey Kozlowski, Nolan Fischer; freshmen Julian Pirrone, Oakley Morrow.
Season outlook: The top seven players from last yearâs team all return, including Guess who was the Monroe County Region Player of the Year.
Coachâs comments: âWe should be very competitive in the Southeastern Conference and hopefully make a run for the state tournament. We have a very promising new group of freshmen and sophomores on JV that will contribute in the future.â

Top players: Junior Levi Evans; sophomores Scott Kohlman, Kylor Freshour, Evan Salenbien.
Season outlook: Evans made the All-Lenawee County Athletic Association team last year. Haselschwerdt says he has embraced a leadership role like a âthird coach.â
Coachâs comments: âWe had 16 players make the golf team this year â which is great and enthusiasm is building with players who want to play golf. We are a young team, but there are definitely some new, young players with talent that is bringing a renewed sense of competition amongst the team.â
Coach: Stacy Grimes, 10th year.
Top players: Seniors Logan Doom, Nic May, Colin Koebl, Jackson Carner; junior Lucas Neely; sophomores Carter Smith, Carl Ford; freshmen Kaden Krueger, Cole Cousino.
Season outlook: Doom made the All-Tri-County Conference first team last spring.
Coachâs comments: âThis looks to be the most competitive team weâve had in a few years and we hope to be in running for the league championship.â

Season outlook: Villemure expect to have better depth this spring.
Coachâs comments: "We've got a good core of players returning this year from a successful season last year. We hope to be competing once again for a Huron League title. The league looks very competitive once again."

Season outlook: Cam Kalbfleisch and Ison were the top players last year. Tyler Kalbfleisch will push the talented group of seniors.
Coachâs comments: âWe have enough talent and experience this year to compete for back-to-back league titles in Downriver League. This year we kept the most players we have ever had. We have 22 players, 14 of which and freshman and sophomores. The future is looking bright for Marauder golf.â

Top players: Senior Alex Faryniarz; juniors Connor Zimmerman, Kamden Jones; sophomores Devin Rhoades, Logan Mitchey.
Season outlook: Seven of Idaâs top eight players return, including three members of the All-Lenawee County Athletic Association team.
Coachâs comments: âWe have 18 players in the program this season, a 15-year high, and should be at least 8-9 deep at the varsity level. The kids have been in the indoor golf lab working hard all winter and they are excited about our prospects this season, particularly in the LCAA."
Coach: Jonathon Gwizdak, fourth year.
Top players: Ben Peer, Cayden Ethridge, Carson Peterson, Wyatt Anders, Brayden Duvall, Cooper Jones, Drew Matzinger, Gage Duvall, Leland Swann, Beau Childress.
Season outlook: Peer had the low score for Milan in the first Huron League jamboree of the season, carding an 83 at Green Meadows on April 17.
Coachâs comments: âSenior and team Captain Ben Peer leads the Jefferson Bears golf team this season. Alongside Ben, Cayden Ethridge, Carson Peterson, and Wyatt Anders show senior leadership to a lot of new players this season.â
Coach: Matt Walline, first year.
Top players: Senior Keagan Dunn; juniors Brody Cicotte, Griffin Sanders, Landon Faro; sophomore Tobin Bartholomay; freshman Sam Jenness.
Season outlook: Cicotte and Jenness are expected to be the top players for the Big Reds.
Coachâs comments: âWe are a young team but have lots of potential. We should be competitive this year as we continue to develop the younger players.â
Coach: Eric Drummonds, first year.
Top players: Solomon Schramm, Grady Gottschalk, Chase Knabusch, Flynn Cooper, Jakoby Haefler, Cole Lahna.
Season outlook: The Trojans have a large roster of 25 players.
Coachâs comments: âWe have a talented group of varsity players. If we play to our potential and play disciplined golf, I think we should be very competitive this spring. Iâm extremely pleased with our offseason work at both the varsity and JV levels.â
Coach: Eric Clark, fifth year.
Top players: Senior Ryan Biller; juniors Jack Newman, Isaac Williamson, Hunter Wyszynski, Jacob Darin; sophomores Nicholas Grant, Karter Barrett; freshmen Brendyn Raschke, Joey Kious, Giovanni Lucia.
Season outlook: Clark expects the freshmen to make major contributions.
Coachâs comments: âI think weâll have a good chance at being in the top of the Huron league this season. Also, as our younger guys develop, I think weâll be completing to breakout of Regionals and possibly take our team to the state championships.â
Coach: Matt Rempe, first year.
Top players: Junior Luke Wasner; sophomores Cameron Cousino, Jeff Gessner, Cade Wasner, freshman Cade Estes.
Season outlook: Freshmen and sophomores dominate the roster for the Falcons. Rempe expects steady improvement throughout the season.
Coachâs comments: âWeâre a relatively inexperienced group, but that also makes this an exciting time for our program. With a new foundation in place, weâre focused on growth, development, and building something that can really take shape over the next few years.â

Top players: Junior James Feudi; sophomore Logan Schwichtenberg.
Season outlook: Feudi was a Regional champion last year and shot a hole-in-one during the La-Z-Boy Junior Open last summer.
Coachâs comments: âReturning James and Logan is going to be a major help for our team this year. With their experience, we will be leaning on them both in leadership positions. Although we have a young team, I am very excited about the potential we have.â
Coach: Collin Welch, third year.
Top players: Seniors Brock Norman, Chase Zawacki; juniors Cade Schober, Hunter Massingill; freshman Fisher Zawacki.
Season outlook: Schober was a state qualifier last season. Welch expects some of his teammates to join him this year.
Coachâs comments: âWe fully expect to compete for the TCC (Tri-County Conference) championship this season, as well as compete and make the state tournament this season. We have a good mix of returning talent, and new young talent.â
