USA TODAY Sports and others have reported that five-star quarterback prospect Elijah Haven has committed to Alabama. Many outlets have Haven ranked at the top of the class of 2027.
It's a major spring victory for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, who are desperately hoping to keep the program in the mix for national championships after the storied run Nick Saban went on. Haven was impressed by Alabama's track record of developing signal callers.
"Ultimately, it came down to familiarity and the place I can set myself up for the future the best," he said, per ESPN. "They have a pro-style offense and the kind of system I fit well into. They feel like they develop guys the best out of anybody and that's what I've been looking for in a school."
Recent NFL quarterbacks developed at Alabama include Tua Tagovailoa, Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts, Bryce Young, Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson. Given Haven's size (6-foot-5, 220 pounds) and rushing ability, his physical profile and play style don't compare to the likes of Tagovailoa, Jones, Young or Simpson.
Haven figures to be in the mold of Milroe and Hurts--big-bodied athletes who can make things happen when the play breaks down, and someone who can take the pounding of goal-line carries to finish long drives. The potential for massive statistical output and a potential Heisman Trophy win is as high as anyone.
It'll be fascinating to see if Haven can put himself at the very top of the Crimson Tide quarterback discussion when his college career is said and done.
