Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique quoted tennis great Rafa Nadal in an attempt to motivate his players for Wednesday's Champions League semi-final second leg at Bayern Munich.
Nadal once said that the extra class of his long-time rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic prompted him to get even better. The PSG boss hopes his Spanish compatriot's view helps elevate his players as they look to take a big step to retaining the trophy.
"We admire Bayern, they play very good football. But it is also an extra motivation for us to beat someone who is so excellent," he told a news conference on Tuesday.
"It will be a top-level match between two of Europe's best teams. It is a match to show why we are here."
PSG's 5-4 win at home in last week's first leg was the game of the season in Europe but Enrique says it now counts for little.
"We have a small advantage but that means nothing at all," he warned. "We know Bayern can easily make up that one goal. But we can score goals too. We are not there to manage a result. We are there to win."
PSG will be without right back Achraf Hakimi after the Morocco international suffered a thigh injury in the first leg. Warren Zaïre-Emery is likely to replace him, moving back from midfield as Fabián Ruiz steps back in.
"I am prepared for anything," the 20-year-old said.
"We are expecting something similar to last week, if not even more intense."
Luis Enrique quoted Rafa Nadal to motivate his players, highlighting Nadal's view on improving through competition with great rivals.
