The Denver Broncos had an incredible run in 2025, coming just short of reaching Super Bowl LX.
After a thrilling win over the Buffalo Bills in overtime in the divisional round, it was immediately announced that quarterback Bo Nix suffered a broken ankle in the final moments of the game. It was news that completely deflated and devastated Broncos Country. There is a strong argument that the Broncos get to the Super Bowl and perhaps even win it without that occurring.
Naturally, the health of that ankle is going to be one of the top subjects surrounding the team heading into the preseason. It's a broken ankle, fairly natural for an athlete. Recently, Nix a secondary procedure on the ankle, which was described as "scheduled". In other words, it's nothing new or alarming.

However, speaking on 104.3 The Fan, Zach Bye, host of 'The Drive', where he appears with former Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay, had this to say:
"No one's gonna want to hear this. No one is going to want to hear what I have to say. But this will not be the last time, this will not be the last time, I'm just telling you... with an ankle issue with Bo Nix. I'm telling you on Wednesday, April 29th. It's not because it brings me joy or glee, it's not because I want to, but based on the evidence that I have, I have to tie half my brain behind my back to think that this isn't gonna raise it's head again. Will it be Week 7 this year, will it be two years from now? I don't know. But, like, given the option, do I think we're out of the woods with this or will there be more stuff, I'd say there will be more stuff. Because as you age, this kind of stuff doesn't get better. It bothers me to say it, but that's what I believe and I hope I'm wrong, I hope I'm wrong. But, I said I was really concerned about this after it happened and derailed a trip to the Super Bowl and he's got another surgery on the ankle before he plays a down after that latest ankle injury".
Is Bye being realistic, or is this just a silly take? That is likely hotly debated depending on which side you sit.
It's worth noting that when Payton announced the injury and that Nix would miss the rest of the postseason, he mentioned that Nix stated he had an ankle injury in high school and another when he was at Auburn, which drew the ire of his quarterback.
Nix is planning to be ready for training camp in July, but he will likely be out of action or very limited during OTAs this offseason.
Whether this is a legitimate concern or a complete non-issue remains to be seen, but there is enough to at least raise the question about the stability of the quarterback position in Denver. Jarrett Stidman is currently the team's No. 2 quarterback.
