The Las Vegas Raiders said goodbye to an overachieving former first-round pick as they sent pass-rusher Tyree Wilson to the New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders paired Wilson and a seventh-round pick (No. 219) for the 150th pick. The Raiders took Arizona safety Dalton Johnson with the pick.
Wilson was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2023 draft and was a disappointment. Had the Raiders kept him, he wasn’t expected to be given the fifth-year option, meaning he would have been a free agent after next year. The Saints likely won’t exercise it.
Overall, Wilson has been quite disappointing as a Raider, considering how high he was drafted. He has played in 50 games with just 7 starts in three NFL seasons. He has 12 career sacks with 4.5 in 2024 being his career high.
Wilson has flashed at times, but mostly he has been inconsistent.
The Raiders drafted Auburn pass-rusher Keyron Crawford in the third round at No. 67 and have Maxx Crosby, Kwity Paye and Malcolm Koonce. there just wasn’t much room for Wilson, who saw his play time decrease last season, anyway.
So, a disappointing top pick is now out of Las Vegas.
