Ralf Schumacher has suggested that Lewis Hamiltonâs early-season form may have been misleading, and that it might be time for the veteran to step aside in favour of Oliver Bearman at Ferrari.
Hamilton came home sixth at the Miami Grand Prix, with his teammate Charles Leclerc receiving a 20-second penalty after the race.
Hamiltonâs start to life at Ferrari seemed encouraging, but his performance levels have noticeably dipped in recent races. Some of those struggles stem from Ferrari not addressing his concerns during last monthâs five-week break.
However, Schumacher sees it differently. He thinks itâs time for Hamilton to call time on his F1 career and give Bearman an opportunity at Ferrari.
During a recent appearance on Backstage Boxengasse, Ralf Schumacher shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamiltonâs future in the sport.
Hamiltonâs season hasnât been going to plan, and Schumacher believes it might be time to step aside so that Oliver Bearman can get his shot at Ferrari.
âLewis Hamilton is obviously in a better position this year. But he probably wonât have a chance against Leclerc in the long run. Thatâs how it is. Since you mentioned Bearman, itâs about timeâŠ
âFernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton have had a wonderful time in Formula 1. But I think itâs time for them to leave the cockpit at the end of the year and give young people a chance.
âThatâs why Iâm saying now that I think itâs time to let the younger generation have a go. Oliver Bearman deserves the chance to sit in the Ferrari. I also believe that if he gets the chance, he can compete with Charles Leclerc. It wouldnât be easy for Leclerc.â

Ralf Schumacher spoke further about why Ferrari should part ways with Hamilton and give Bearman a chance, as the formerâs presence in the sport has seemingly limited opportunities for younger drivers.
âThey want to keep the brand of Lewis Hamilton. There are a lot of good young drivers coming from Formula 2 who deserve a chance.
âI hope that the grid will be a bit younger next year. Bearman definitely deserves the chance to sit in the Ferrari.â
Bearman has said heâs ready to join Ferrari, but the team is still not ready to pivot away from the pairing of Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.
Hamiltonâs presence has delayed Bearmanâs arrival for now. But if he canât turn things around this season, Ferrari might have to reconsider their options.
