The Los Angeles Rams made the stunning decision in the NFL Draft to use their pick No. 13 on Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
Seen by most as a second or third round talent, the Rams took a shot on Simpson, being "the" guy for the future when Matthew Stafford does retire.
Much was made of the press conference after with head coach Sean McVay, as he didn't seem too thrilled with the pick of Simpson, but the rookie quarterback knows that his new head coach is all in on him as a player.
He also stated that coming to the Rams is the best situation for him.
"I know one thing, though," Simpson said. "I know coach McVay has been in contact and he's super fired up," Simpson said via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times.Ā "And I'm super excited. I know that I couldn't have asked for a better situation, not only with the best player in the league in front of me but the best coach in the league at the helm."

That's just what the Rams want.
In an ideal world, Simpson would sit behind Stafford for the entire 2026 season, maybe getting on the field late in blowouts, but otherwise learning in the classroom and working on his game.
Then, when Stafford does retire, much like Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City with Alex Smith, Simpson would step into the starting role, and the Rams wouldĀ have their quarterback for the next decade.
Granted, it's not an exact science, but L.A. clearly feels confident about Simpson to take him so high in the draft.
Time will tell if they're right.
