The Los Angeles Rams made the surprising pick of Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Many expected them to go with a different player with that pick.
But now that Simpson is on the roster, the only thing the Rams can do is help him become the best quarterback possible. Even though he won't start for some time due to Matthew Stafford, Simpson could still develop into a good QB.
That's exactly what ESPN's Jordan Reid is predicting will happen in the future, with Simpson predicted to lead the NFL in one key statistic in five years.
"The area where he could lead the league in five years: Completion percentage," Reid writes. "Simpson is a highly accurate passer who completed 64.5% of his passes last season and can be effective in multiple schemes."
This prediction from Reid bodes well for Simpson finding success in the NFL, as leading the league in completion percentage is typically done by QBs who are highly accurate passers that are in good offensive environments.

Simpson is an accurate quarterback, and if given a few years to develop behind Stafford and learn from Sean McVay, it wouldn't be a surprise if he found success in the NFL.
The 23-year-old out of Alabama isn't going to get onto the field in 2026, barring an injury or the Rams deciding to rest Stafford in the last game of the year.
But, even if he doesn't play for some time, he could still develop as a passer, learn the McVay offense, and come into the league once Stafford is gone and lead the Rams offense with some highly accurate production.
His 64.5% completion rate in 2025 was encouraging, and with a career 63.9% completion rate in college, there's reason to believe he could be a league-leader in accuracy when he does get a chance to start.
He will need to improve, as last year's completion percentage leader, Drake Maye, had a 72.0% completion rate. But, Simpson is predicted by Reid to have such a great season in a few years from now, which would bode very well for his future in the NFL.
