In his first media availability with the Chargers, running back Keaton Mitchell expressed high enthusiasm for his fresh start in Los Angeles. The 24-year-old signed a two-year, $9.25 million contract in March after four seasons with the Ravens.
Mitchell was impressed by how quickly the Bolts showed interest in him after he hit the market. âProbably like 20 seconds⊠My agent told me, 'They want to get you on the Zoom right now.'â He praised the welcoming energy: âJust the energy they brought... they called me just like that. So, just the energy and the welcome, it was great.â
The former East Carolina standout highlighted offensive coordinator Mike McDanielâs impact. âJust his passion and his interest in helping everybody. Everybody is dialed in... Definitely motivating to be in a room where I feel like I have a chance and a shot to do big things.â
Through 26 career games, Mitchell has shown explosive potential with 121 carries for 767 rushing yards (6.3 yards per carry) and three touchdowns, plus 19 receptions for 184 yards. His standout 2023 campaign featured an eye-popping 8.4 yards per carry.
"I'm explosive, everybody knows that," Mitchell said. "But I'm always learning from others, teaching others if they have any questions."
Known for his 4.37 speed, Mitchellâs big-play ability and versatility should fit perfectly in McDanielâs scheme alongside Omarion Hampton. But he's also open to other roles, including special teams duties, where he has some experience. âWhatever they need me to do... Kick return, gunner... itâs cool with me.â
