Real Madrid defender will be out for 4-5 months after surgery decision
Earlier today, it emerged that Real Madrid star Eder Militao will need to undergo surgery after suffering a relapse of a previous injury he had sustained in December.
Having already been ruled out of the season, it was confirmed that the defender would now miss the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America later this summer as well.
Building on that, Jose Felix Diaz of AS reports that Militao will be sidelined for a period of four to five months, meaning he could even miss the start of the new season with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian defender underwent an MRI scan which confirmed a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg. It is a recurring issue, and the diagnosis worsened over the following days.
As a result, the decision has been made for him to undergo surgery, which will keep him out for approximately four to five months, with the hope being that he gets fit in time for the start of next season.

Had he not undergone the operation, he would have been sidelined for around five weeks, but with a significant risk of relapse.
By opting for surgery, which is now confirmed, the recovery period extends to four or five months, but it considerably reduces the likelihood of further setbacks.

This injury will prevent Militao from taking part in his second World Cup after making his debut at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
It will be interesting to see whether this alters Real Madridās plans in the transfer market as well. The Merengues were initially planning to sign one new centre-back but given the Brazilianās recurring fitness woes, another defender could become a necessity.
