Round 4 – Pick 109: Jadon Canady, CB, Oregon
Kansas City completed a double-up of the cornerback position by drafting Jadon Canady from Oregon. He was ranked the 191st prospect and the 23rd-ranked corner by Arrowhead Pride’s consensus rankings.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler saw Canady as the 17th-ranked cornerback in this class and graded him as a fourth-to-fifth round pick in his draft guide, “The Beast.”
Canady measured in at 5 feet 10 1/2 inches tall and 181 pounds with 30-inch arm length, which is in the eighth percentile for cornerbacks in the Mockdraftables database, and also has 9 1/4-inch hands.
He did not perform on the field at the NFL Scouting Combine, but posted the following numbers at Oregon’s Pro Day:
- 40-yard dash: 4.47 seconds
- 10-yard split: 1.67 seconds
- Vertical leap: 37 1/2 inches
- Broad jump: 10 feet 7 inches
On the field, Canady was primarily a slot defender in the Ducks’ defense last season, only lining up on the outside for 27 snaps according to Pro Football Focus. If he wasn’t in the slot, he aligned at free safety for 128 of his snaps.
In the previous four years before joining Oregon last season, Canady played more on the perimeter for both Ole Miss and Tulane, but he has slot snaps in every collegiate season he played.
Canady gets to team up with Chiefs’ top pick Mansoor Delane for the foreseeable future; the two are already a good pair by the numbers.
