Michigan Football is targeting four-star linebacker Jhadyn Nelson, who is currently committed to Texas Tech. The Wolverines are making efforts to host him for a visit as they aim to flip his commitment.

It isn’t flip season just yet — even though they did flip four-star quarterback Kamden Lopati a few weeks ago — but the Michigan Wolverines are hoping to host a top target that just so happens to be verbally committed to a different program. That’s where we begin today’s Recruiting Roundup.
Among the best linebackers in the 2027 class is four-star Jhadyn Nelson. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder from Houston, Texas has been committed to Texas Tech since March, but Alex Whittingham and the Wolverines are continuing to go after the No. 8 ranked linebacker in this cycle.
Speaking with The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich ($), Nelson revealed that the coaching staff visited him at his high school recently and made it clear how badly wanted he is.
“Michigan was at my school (last week),” Nelson said. “They wanted to see if I was serious about them and they said they’d crank up the recruitment and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Nelson has official visits set up for Houston and Texas, so there is room on the schedule for him to take one to Michigan if he wants to. When asked about the possibility of visiting Ann Arbor, Nelson said that he does “hope to visit them.”
Auburn and Miami are two other schools pursuing a flip.
Nelson is far from the only linebacker interested in Michigan, as the Wolverines are also heavily pursuing 2027 four-star Roman Igwebuike. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Chicago native — who actually is teammates at Mount Carmel High School with four-star wide receiver target Quentin Burrell — is a Top 15 linebacker in the country.

Michigan Football is actively pursuing Jhadyn Nelson by visiting him at his high school and expressing their desire for him to join the team.
Jhadyn Nelson is ranked as the No. 8 linebacker in the 2027 recruiting class.

The Wolverines met with him at his school this spring, and Igwebuike told On3’s Ethan McDowell ($) that the staff “was welcoming to me and my family.” He also appreciated the “family-like” atmosphere around them.
Igwebuike took a trip to Ann Arbor in March, and he said things have been “good” since then between him and the Wolverines. So much so that he plans on “setting up an OV to get back down there, and then we’ll see where it goes from there.”
He already has official visits scheduled to Notre Dame and Clemson, with more schools like Michigan trying to get on his list. Based on the quote above, it sounds like he will end up taking one to Michigan. Others in the mix to receive an official visit include Indiana, Ole Miss and Missouri, according to McDowell.
Igwebuike plans on dropping his top list soon, and Michigan will likely make the cut.
Michigan added a massive piece to its 2027 class over the weekend, as four-star offensive lineman Jakari Lipsey announced his commitment on Saturday morning. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder from Kalamazoo has been a top target for the Wolverines dating back to the old coaching staff and is among the best prospects not only in the state of Michigan, but also the entire country.
Speaking with Rivals’ Allen Trieu ($), Lipsey explained his decision.
“I chose Michigan because they’ve become family,” he said. “When I’m there, I know that’s where I belong. Coach (Jim) Harding played a major role in my commitment — he’s just a great coach and he knows how to develop.”
In a separate interview with On3’s McDowell ($), Lipsey also said: “It’s Michigan, the most winningest school. … I’ve just been attached to Michigan ever since I’ve been growing up.”
As Lipsey alluded to, Harding is among the top offensive line coaches in the country, recently helping former Utah tackles Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu become first-round NFL draft picks. The hope is he will be able to do the same thing with the players at his disposal in Ann Arbor, including Lipsey.
According to McDowell ($), Lipsey was among the first recruits that Harding connected with upon getting hired. “They built a great bond, playing basketball together during his visit … Michigan visited (Lipsey’s high school) to meet with him again recently and made sure he knew how badly he was wanted in Ann Arbor.”
Lipsey — who is ranked No. 3 in the state of Michigan, No. 9 at the offensive tackle position and No. 104 overall on the Rivals Industry Ranking — chose the Wolverines over LSU, UCLA, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Ohio State and others. He is the third offensive lineman to commit to Michigan’s 2027 class, joining three-stars Louis Esposito and Sidney Rouleau.
