Garrett Crochet of the Red Sox allowed 11 runs in just 1.2 innings against the Twins, marking the worst start of his MLB career. This performance included nine hits and three walks, with no strikeouts recorded.
MINNEAPOLIS — Red Sox starter Garrett Crochet allowed 11 runs while recording just five outs against the Twins on Monday.
Ten of the 11 runs the left-handed ace allowed were earned. He gave up nine hits (two homers) and three walks while striking out nobody. He left the game with two outs in the second inning and Boston trailing 11-0.
It marked the second shortest start of Crochet’s career, behind only a rain-shortened start for the White Sox against Texas on Aug. 27, 2024, when he threw just four pitches without recording an out. There was a 1-hour, 29-minute delay in the first inning of that start and he did not return when the game resumed.
Monday marked the shortest start of his Red Sox career, entering the game having pitched at least five innings in 34 of his 35 starts with Boston. His previous shortest start with the club came Aug. 11, 2025, at Houston when he allowed five runs in four innings.
He had never given up more than seven runs in any of his previous 67 starts entering Monday.
Excluding the rain-shortened start, it marked Crochet’s first true appearance without a strikeout since a relief outing for the White Sox against the Diamondbacks on Sept. 27, 2023.
Crochet threw 55 pitches, including 31 pitches in the first inning, and recorded just three swings and misses.
His 13 four-seam fastballs averaged 94.9 mph, down from his 96.1 mph yearly average. The spin on all his pitches, especially his cutter, was down.
The 26-year-old entered with a 3.12 ERA, which ballooned to 7.58 after Monday’s outing.
The Red Sox lost, 13-6, and are 6-10 on the season.
