Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford has been pulled from his rehab assignment due to mild soreness in his right elbow, but no MRI is scheduled. Additionally, Triston Casas is dealing with an abdominal strain.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Red Sox pulled starting pitcher Kutter Crawford off his rehab assignment Tuesday because of mild soreness in his right elbow.
No MRI is scheduled.
“Just a little bit sore, so we’re gonna play it safe with him,” manager Alex Cora said before Tuesday’s game against the Twins at Target Field.
The 30-year-old righty struggled in his first rehab start for Triple-A Worcester on Saturday. He allowed five runs on six hits, including three homers, and one walk while striking out five in three innings against Columbus.
“Nothing to be too alarmed,” Cora said. “Talking to (head trainer) Brandon (Henry), just making sure we go through the right steps. Hopefully he gets back next week.”
Crawford began this season on the 15-day injured list while working his way back from right wrist surgery in July 2025. He also dealt with patellar tendinitis last year.
“He’s going to get treatment and hopefully in the next few days he feels better and we go from there,” Cora said.
First baseman Triston Casas’ MRI revealed he has a left abdominal strain.
Casas began the season on the 10-day injured list as he works his way back from season-ending surgery in May 2025 to repair a ruptured left patellar tendon.
He previously dealt with a rib injury in 2024. He was limited to 63 games in 2024 after tearing cartilage in his rib cage on a hard swing in Pittsburgh in April of that year.
“Nothing to do with the previous (rib injury),” Cora said. “He’s down, obviously. ... They’re treating it like an oblique injury. Obviously, whenever he’s ready, he’s ready. And we have to go do the ramp up again and the whole thing, and then obviously going through the progression of like, quote-unquote, spring training. So it’s gonna be a while.”
Cora said he and Casas exchanged texts recently. Between the rib injury and the knee surgery, Casas has been limited to 92 games since the start of the 2024 season.
“It’s been tough. It’s been hard for him. It seems like every year there’s something. And when he’s about to get going, this happened. Obviously, he’s upbeat about it and the knee is fine. We just have to take care of this and hopefully he can be back doing baseball activities sooner rather than later.”
