A drastic change could be in the future for the Boston Red Sox.
They've already fired manager Alex Cora, and there's reported dysfunction in the clubhouse between younger players and veterans.
If the Red Sox decide to sell at the trade deadline, the Texas Rangers are a team to watch, FanSided's Mark Powell wrote Tuesday.
Jake Burger and Josh Smith not producing at first base is the main reason why. Burger's .636 OPS is far from appealing.
Powell's trade idea sends Willson Contreras to the Rangers for two prospects, infielder Yolfran Castillo and right-hander Emilio Teodo.
"Two prospects for a player of Contreras' caliber may not seem like much, but the Red Sox would receive a gem in Venezuelan prospect Yolfran Castillo," Powell wrote. "While still a few years away, Castillo really blossomed in Venezuela after MLB teams had committed most of their international bonus pool money. This allowed Texas to sign him for just $647,500 in 2024."
The Red Sox are looking to address reported clubhouse dysfunction and have decided to trade Contreras, who has been labeled a 'distraction'.
The specific names of the two prospects the Red Sox would receive in the trade have not been disclosed yet.
The firing of manager Alex Cora reflects ongoing issues within the team, prompting the Red Sox to consider significant roster changes, including trading Contreras.

Contreras' on-and-off-the-field antics could also be turning into a distraction for the Red Sox, which is the very last thing they need.
"While his comments on Boston's youth movement weren't ideal, he's since apologized to Alex Cora and his teammates. This is at least the second time Contreras has caused unnecessary drama this season, as he single-handedly started a fight with Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Brandon Woodruff in April," Powell added. "At some point, the Red Sox front office will tire of Contreras' act. For now, they need his bat, which means they'll probably keep him until the trade deadline at least."
Despite striking out in 27.9% of his trips to the plate, Contreras' seven home runs and .856 OPS lead the Red Sox.
