The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have played over 2,000 games against each other throughout their historic rivalry, which dates back to 1903. During that time, the Red Sox have hosted 280 home series of at least three games, most of them at Fenway Park.
That includes the one this week, where Boston was swept in three games by New York. The Red Sox's offense was dismal, scoring just three runs on 13 hits over the course of the series.
Unfortunately, Boston's .141 batting average was the lowest in franchise history during a home series of at least three games against the Yankees, according to Paul Hembekides.
The Red Sox just couldn't get anything going against New York's pitching staff, including starters Luis Gil, Max Fried and Cam Schlittler. They were overeager all series, resulting in lots of quick at-bats and weak contact.

The cold weather at Fenway Park didn't help, nor did Roman Anthony's absence in the second and third games. They didn't get consecutive hits at any point and nearly got shut out in back-to-back games at Fenway Park for the first time in over 20 years.
Clearly, Boston's lineup is scuffling. The sweep capped off a dismal 2-5 homestand for the Red Sox, who scored more than two runs only once during that stretch.
