The Red Sox-Tigers game on Monday has been moved up to 6:10 p.m. ET due to a forecast of rain. This marks the third time this season that the Red Sox have adjusted their game time because of weather concerns.
DETROIT — For the third time so far this season, the Red Sox have had a first pitch time shifted due to a troubling forecast.
Monday’s series opener between the Red Sox and Tigers at Comerica Park will now begin at 6:10 p.m. ET — 30 minutes before the original first pitch time of 6:40 p.m. ET — due to “forecasted precipitation in the area.”
The National Weather Service forecast says: “Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2am, then a chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 51. Southwest wind around 14 mph, with gusts as high as 24 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”
The Red Sox will try to snap a two-game losing streak with rookie lefty Payton Tolle on the mound. Boston was supposed to face reigning Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal — who struck out 10 Boston batters in six strong innings at Fenway Park on April 18 — but Skubal was scratched from the outing.
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that Skubal has loose bodies in his elbow and will require arthroscopic surgery. Instead of Skubal, the Tigers will use left-handed reliever Tyler Holton as an opener; righty Ty Madden was called up to provide length out of the bullpen.
The game time was changed due to a forecast of rain and thunderstorms in the area.
The game now starts at 6:10 p.m. ET, which is 30 minutes earlier than the original time.
Rookie lefty Payton Tolle is set to pitch for the Red Sox in the game.
Man City’s title race takes a hit after a 12-minute collapse, with Arsenal now in the lead.
