The Boston Red Sox, among several other offensive issues, lack power.
First baseman Willson Contreras leads the club with seven home runs through the first 35 games of the season.
In fifth place in the AL East, however, Boston is trending in the wrong direction. A poor May and June could set them up to sell at the trade deadline. However, FanSided's Chris Landers does not think that should stop them from making a franchise-altering addition.
Landers tabbed Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez as a player they should be aggressive in making a move for.
"On the contrary: If Alvarez is available, Boston would pretty much have to make a serious run at him," Landers wrote Tuesday. "He's exactly the sort of big bopper this lineup desperately needs, and he's under team control through 2028 on a pretty affordable deal."

Alvarez battled injuries in 2025, limiting him to just 48 games. However, he's looked like a prime MVP candidate thus far, hitting .333/.438/.667 with 12 homers and a 1.105 OPS.
"Plus, the Red Sox farm system has as much pitching depth as anybody this side of the Dodgers, which is exactly what the Astros would be looking for in an Alvarez deal," Landers added. "Throw in a lefty-swinging outfielder like Jarren Duran in addition to a couple bright young arms, and maybe you've got something."
Duran is a fan favorite in Boston, but the Red Sox have a plethora of outfielders. Adding the speedster in the deal could sway the Astros to pull the trigger.
