The New York Giants selected Notre Dame wide receiver Malachi Fields in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft on Friday.
At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds, Fields is an extremely talented route runner who could immediately establish himself as one of quarterback Jaxon Dart’s top weapons next season. The former Notre Dame standout recorded 630 yards and five touchdowns in 2025 and was considered one of the top remaining receivers available when the Giants selected him at No. 74.
Fields had reportedly been on head coach John Harbaugh’s radar leading up to draft night. The Giants were able to trade up and secure the promising receiver in the third round, sending the No. 105 and No. 145 overall picks along with a 2027 fourth-round selection to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for the 74th overall pick.
Fields was a highly coveted prospect heading into the draft. The Miami Dolphins, who held the 75th overall pick, were reportedly very interested in him before the Giants moved up to select the playmaker.
Without the trade, the Giants would likely have missed out on Fields. The rookie will look to build on his college production in his first NFL season, where his talent and athleticism give him the potential to shine right away.
Fields was the only receiver selected by the Giants in the 2026 NFL draft and could emerge as a downfield difference-maker as early as Week 1.
