Notre Dame and USC are in talks to resume their historic rivalry, which was paused earlier this offseason. The earliest potential matchup could occur in 2030, as both programs work to resolve scheduling differences.
There were plenty of angry fans for Notre Dame and USC when the two teams announced that they would put a pause on their historic rivalry earlier this offseason.
However, that could be changing soon as the LA Times is reporting that the two programs “are in active discussions to resume their storied rivalry,” according to Ryan Kartje. The biggest obstacle had been when the game would be played, as both sides had different stances on when it should happen. Nicole Auerbach said on social media that Notre Dame has been easing up on its demand to play later in the season, which could be why talks have started up again.
However, Kartje is reporting that both sides could be coming to an agreement, which would be fantastic for the rivalry. The bad news is that he’s also reporting that the earliest that the two could face-off against each other in the field again could be in 2030.
It surely isn’t ideal as one of the most historic rivalries in all of college football would have to wait over five-years to resume, but there is now hope that both sides can work out a deal to get Notre Dame and USC back on their future schedules.
