With the Golden State Warriors' season officially over, all eyes appear to be on Steve Kerr as the offseason kicks off. The storied Golden State head coach has expired. He previously signed a two-year extension in 2024 that has come to an end with the 2025-26 season ending.
Kerr and the Warriors have a significant decision to make regarding the future of the head coaching position in Golden State. If Kerr returns, the Warriors will have pieces in place to build something around a familiar core of Kerr and Steph Curry. If Kerr exits Golden State, the Warriors will have to hold their first coaching search since 2014.
While Kerr's decision has yet to be made, a name has been reported as a potential successor in Golden State. According to Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports, the Warriors could pursue Florida head coach Todd Golden if Kerr leaves the Warriors.
Golden has spent the last four seasons as the head coach of the Florida Gators. In his third season in Gainesville, Golden led the Gators to the National Championship in 2025, their first title since 2007. Last season, Golden and the Gators notched a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Iowa in the second round.
Golden has Bay Area ties, coaching the University of San Francisco Dons for three seasons before leaving to take over the Gators. Golden also played college basketball for the Saint Mary's Gaels in Moraga.
As rumors continue to heat up regarding Golden State's coaching position, the Warriors and the rest of the basketball world will wait on Kerr's decision.
