ONLY ONE??

I’ll be honest – the first joke in my mind was if you finish the regular season 43-6 and ranked as the consensus #2 team in country with only one All-Big 10 First Teamer, you better get Coach of the Year. Five other teams had two or more 1st team honorees including Purdue who finished with a losing record in conference.

I could argue for a 2nd teamer or two being moved up, but the name which sticks out glaringly as being ignored is Hannah Camenzind. She hit .386 with over a third of her hits going for extra bases and currently leads the #2 team in the nation with 50 RBI’s. In 35 innings in the circle, she is 5-0 with a 1.40 ERA. Her .386 average is second on the team among players qualified as full-time and she hits to all fields, as well as being the only player I know of to hit the Big Red “N” on the Gordon Center.

That should count for something.

That being said, Big 10 awards this year tended to be based strongly on stats – the weekly winners, including Nebraska’s, tended to have the team lower in the Big 10 standings as their opponents when they took home the trophies. And looking at some who made it, such as Coor, Hoffman and Bland, coaches apeared to have taken defense strongly into consideration.

Still feels weird for Hannah, though. But not sinister at least.

More on the Big Three Winners

Rhonda Revelle – The 43-6 regular season was the highest win percentage in program history at .878. Under Revelle they also reached their first #1 ranking in school history as she won her fifth conference coach of the year award. They also finished with a 23-1 record while winning the Big 10 title, the most wins and highest win% in conference history. The outright regular-season title was her first in the Big 10 and her first one since 2002.

Jordy Frahm – Named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year for the second time. She is now a four-time conference pitcher of the year honoree, only the third power conference pitcher to accomplish that feat. Frahm was also 1st Team All-Big Ten and All-Defensive first team. Frahm leads the Huskers in BA (.429), runs (55), hits (70), triples (four), HR’s (19), SL% (.890), OB% (.523), OPS (1.313), ERA (1.25), SH (seven), SVS (10) and K’s (193).

Alexis Jensen – the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, the Huskers’ first since Ava Bredwell in 2022. Jensen, ranks 5th nationally in K/BB ratio, 7th in strikeouts per seven innings, 9th in wins and 14th in strikeouts. She has a 21-2 record and 2.72 ERA and has 185 strikeouts and 31walks. Offensively, Jensen is batting .333 with four doubles and six homers.

So while it may sting a little if we got voted a little light on the First Team side, remember this:

It won’t mean a damn thing if we’re settling in our seats in Oklahoma City in a few weeks.
