The Chicago Bears drafted rookie center Logan Jones to support quarterback Caleb Williams after losing Pro Bowl center Drew Dalman to retirement. Jones aims to ease Williams' burden by enhancing communication and teamwork.
Mentioned in this story
Last season, the Chicago Bears acquired Drew Dalman, and it made all the difference in the world for the Bears' offense. Caleb Williams was sacked 68 times the season prior, with poor center play. Plug in a Pro Bowl-level center, and Caleb Williams flourished as did the whole offense.
Unfortunately for the Bears, they lost Drew Dalman to retirement just after one season of great production. This created a big need at center. The Bears drafted an experienced college center from Iowa, Logan Jones.
In a recent article, Mike Pendleton analyzes what rookie center Logan Jones plans to do as the Bears' long-term center. Here is what Jones had to say:
"I was fortunate, the quarterbacks I've played with, I was very close with all of them," Jones said. "Whether it be like a trip down to the lake or something like that, but just communication. We wanted to take as much off the quarterback's plate so he can just go out there and play. He already has so much on to do in the handle, so if I can take a little bit off him, get the points and things like that, it makes life easier. As long as we're on the same page and communicating, we'll be alright."
The center and quarterback connection is one of the most important relationships on a football team. That was a direct reason for Caleb Williams' lack of success in his rookie season. Rookie center is well aware of that notion, and he looks motivated to be a solution to the loss of talented center Drew Dalman.

Drew Dalman's retirement left a significant gap at center, which the Bears addressed by drafting rookie Logan Jones to improve their offensive line and support quarterback Caleb Williams.
Logan Jones plans to take pressure off Caleb Williams by improving communication and ensuring they are on the same page, allowing Williams to focus on his game.
Before Logan Jones joined, Caleb Williams was sacked 68 times in the previous season, largely due to poor center play.
