Chase Bisontis was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals as the 34th overall pick. He is expected to compete for a starting guard position, potentially switching sides with veteran Isaac Seumalo.
The Arizona Cardinals selected offensive lineman Chase Bisontis in the second round, using the 34th overall pick in the draft. There is some question as to where he might play as a rookie.
The Cardinals signed veteran Isaac Seumalo to a three-year contract in free agency. Seumalo, while he did start one season at right guard for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022, has played left guard most of his career and made the Pro Bowl two years ago as a left guard.
Bistontis, after playing right tackle as a freshman because of injuries on the team, started at left guard the last two seasons.
Assuming Bisontis begins the year as a starter, either he or Seumalo must switch sides.
If that task falls upon the rookie, he is unworried about a transition.
âI could put my right or left hand in," he said after he was drafted. "Like I said, I played right tackle and Iâve been playing left guard for two years. I could do anything.â
He said that playing right tackle "easily" translates to being able to play right guard.
The same logic was used for Paris Johnson when he was drafted in 2023. He had never played right tackle, but while at Ohio State, he played right guard and left tackle. He played tackle well. He had played the right side of the line well. Playing right tackle, where he played for the Cardinals as a rookie, wasn't a difficult transition.
The same applies to Bisontis. He has played guard well. While not at guard, he has started on the right side. He'll be fine as a right guard.
We will see where he ends up getting most of his reps once training camp comes around.
