The Northern Irishman is at a level now where he is able to pick and choose which events he plays, regardless of their standing in the game.

While another went into real detail explaining his disappointment: *â*Rory can play when he likes. This is what the PGA Tour has become,â X user Darren Cope exclaimed.
âMeaningless events. Not allowing Rahm/Bryson etc to play is childish and hurts the event. Iâd be furious with the PGA Tour as a major sponsor. They should have never locked them out and backed their product. But they couldnât I guess, because as we all found out, the PGA Tour product wasnât fair. Hence the pay rises.â
Another golf fan urged the PGA Tour to fix the issue as soon as possible.
âAnother reason the PGA Tour and others need to control their fields better for the sake of sponsors and charities,â the fan stated.

âI have a feeling the players have run too long on their leash and the game is broken â too much player $$ for not enough sponsor commitment and charity benefit. FIX IT!â
Meanwhile, one fan urged the PGA Tour to make a change: âRory has the right to do so, but itâs another shining example of what is broken: It is the only major sports organization in which its star players donât have to compete on a regular basis.â
And the comments kept coming with fans stating, âEvery professional golfer dreams to play in a PGA Tour event, let alone a signature event. Rory thinks heâs entitled,â and, âThought players could only miss one. Guess Rory now thinks heâs bigger than the PGA Tour.â
While another fan suggested that the onus is on the PGA Tour to make things right: âThe PGA Tour needs to sort its schedule out. Having two signature events in two consecutive weeks before a major means top players would be playing three weeks in a row, and Rory rightly doesnât want to do that. Iâll bet Scottie doesnât play the Truist and no one will have any issue with it!â
Brian Rolapp clearly has a lot of work to do moving forward.
It will be incredibly interesting to see what happens with the PGA Tour schedule in the future.
The Sentry has already been wiped from the schedule from 2027 onwards, but Rolapp has to ensure that the Signature Events are more spaced out as well.
The whole point of the designated events was to ensure that the best players on the PGA Tour competed against each other more regularly.
However, the sad thing is that simply hasnât happened. Rory McIlroyâs decision to skip the Cadillac Championship next week proves that the PGA Tour is operating with a broken model.
Quite what Rolapp will do in order to get the best players in the world competing against each other more frequently remains to be seen, though.
