West Vigo high school softball team defeated North Central Thunderbirds 20-1 in a mercy rule game. Lily Krause and Briley Jones were standout players, contributing significantly to the victory.
The West Vigo high school softball team mercy-ruled the North Central Thunderbirds 20-1 in five innings Monday night.
Lily Krause led West Vigo with three hits, an RBI and two runs scored while Briley Jones had two hits, five RBIs and two runs scored. Grace Rodgers chipped in with two hits, three RBIs and a run scored. Brylie Graves pitched all five innings and allowed two hits, a run and walked two while striking out four.
West Vigo (9-5) was slated to play Tuesday evening at Brown County.
In other high school softball:
• Robinson 6, Mt. Carmel 1 — At Robinson, Ill., the Maroons defeated Mount Carmel in Little Illini Conference action Monday night.
Addy Strauch led the Maroons with two hits, and a run scored while Leighton Boyd had a home run and four RBIs and a run scored. Eva Hermann pitched all seven innings and allowed three hits and a run while striking out eight.
Robinson (20-7, 5-1 LIC) is back in action Saturday.

• Mahomet 8, Paris 1 — At Paris, Ill., the Tigers fell hard to Mahomet on Monday night.

Women's golf
• Pomeroys third — At Daniels, W.Va., Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College finished third in the three-day River States Conference Championships that concluded Tuesday at The Resort at Glade Springs.
The Pomeroys posted a total of 1,008, opening with a 328 before carding rounds of 341 and 339 over the final two days. SMWC entered the championship ranked No. 50 in the NAIA and finished behind only Midway and Indiana East in the conference field.
The final score was West Vigo 20, North Central Thunderbirds 1.
Lily Krause had three hits and two runs, while Briley Jones contributed two hits and five RBIs.
West Vigo is scheduled to play at Brown County on Tuesday evening.
