The upcoming event headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano has lost a UFC and Bellator veteran scheduled to compete on the undercard.
Lorenz Larkin, who was set to face Jason Jackson in a welterweight showdown, revealed that heās suffered an injury and can no longer compete on May 16. Larkin revealed the news on his Instagram account.
āIām sorry to all the fans but I had to pull out of the Netflix card due to knee injury,ā Larkin wrote. āWill be rehabbing it back to 100 percent and will be back.ā
A replacement opponent is being sought for Jackson ā sources close to the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting on Tuesday ā with the event airing live on Netflix from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif.
Larkin was setting up potentially one of his biggest fights to date after he was a stalwart in the UFCās welterweight division before leaving the promotion in free agency to sign with Bellator in 2017. After two straight losses in Bellator, Larkin turned things around going undefeated in his next eight fights.
He eventually made his way to the PFL after the organization bought out Bellator and Larkin picked up wins in his final two fights with the promotion before hitting free agency.
Larkin was scheduled to face Jackson, who is a former Bellator champion and rated as one of the top welterweights currently outside the UFC.
The Rousey vs. Carano card is being promoted by Jake Paulās Most Valuable Promotions and also includes the return of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou as he clashes with Philipe Lins in the co-main event while Nate Diaz battles Mike Perry in the third featured bout on the card.
As of now thereās expected to be 11 total fights on the Rousey vs. Carano card, although the full bout order hasnāt been revealed now that Jackson needs a new opponent for May 16.
