Rumor Claims NY Mets Have Talked to Legendary Manager to Replace Carlos Mendoza

A wild new rumor claims the New York Mets have spoken with a future Hall of Fame manager to replace Carlos Mendoza. However, talks fell through for a specific reason.

While the Mets have won three of their last four and have looked better in recent days, the team is still in a massive hole that will take months to dig out of. After losing 17 of 20 at one point, one of the most expensive rosters in baseball owns a sad 13-22 record heading into their game on Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.

Understandably, there has been a ton of speculation on how much longer manager Carlos Mendoza will hold on to the job, especially after much of his staff was fired following their ugly collapse late last season. Last week, President David Stearns publicly threw his support behind the skipper and claimed a change is not coming any time soon. That seemed to quiet the recent chatter.

However, that may only be because they haven’t found an adequate replacement yet, because they have been trying. According to New York WFAN host Al Cintron, he alleges that a “trusted” source told him that Mets management recently reached out to legendary manager Dusty Baker about taking over as skipper for the rest of the season.

The 76-year-old has posted 2,183 wins during his 26 seasons as a manager in MLB, including memorable stops with the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, and Houston Astros — where he got his lone World Series win in 2022. So why is he not managing the Mets?
